» EMRIS SYMMACHUS
three. male. irish wolfhound. straight. cesavias.
» general appearance. Emris is very simply massive. Not in the sense of muscle and weight, but in height. There are very few that compare to his size in height and few can match his weight (although that is not as difficult to do for some breeds). Despite his large size he is very elegant and graceful when he moves. He is not clumsy or an oaf, he moved with grace and nobility in his step- as if he were a king. Yet, in his eyes and his expression (aside from the seriousness he tends to share) there is modesty, he may be a king in his own mind and in his own right but he does not generally sling it about and force others to see it or accept it.
He is a scruffy looking dog, not exactly attractive, in fact, he looks more like a mutt that has never seen a brush or had a bath- although he does not necessarily smell bad. His coat is course and can be described as wiry and unkempt. He is a steel gray color, with a white patch on his chest, the only part of him that lets others know that he keeps himself clean. His eyes are a very light honey brown color, generally they are soft and kind, reflecting the intelligence he possess’.
(height 36 inches weight 120pounds)
» personality. Emris is a very serious type of dog. He understands humor but is not often that he teases or plays around with anyone. He does not see life as a game to be played but a matter of seriousness where any wrong move could mean injury or death. Because of this he tends to think things through almost to the point of over thinking everything. Visualize someone over seeing everything-looking for a fault and you will have a good idea of how he is. The poor lad’s brain is rarely turned off because of this. When he does play around or tease anyone it is done in a shy manner, always making sure that his rather odd sense of humor is not taken seriously or overdone.
Emris is a dog without arrogance, he knows his abilities but he does not assume that they are greater than another’s and he is far from a handsome dog. If anything he is a very modest when it comes to his abilities and shy when it comes to his looks. His confidence is in his pride- descending from dogs that sat with kings and nobles, as such, he holds his lineage in high esteem. His heritage is not something he makes common knowledge, he lets his confidence be seen but not the reason behind it. The world he has fallen in does not care about ancestors and their noble masters.
He is a very sympathetic dog, he understands others pain and suffering and he tries to help ease that pain and suffering, he does not like to see others hurt be it emotionally or physically. Thus, to those he welcomes as family he becomes extremely protective and will defend until his last breath. Despite his sympathetic nature, he is not easily befriended nor is he one to trust easily, such things take time with him. Because of his over analytical nature, he tends to be suspicious of almost everyone, constantly wondering if his or her motives are innocent or poisonous.
Emris is a kind creature, but he is not naïve or gullible, he has a cold side and it is most often seen when dogs try to trick or bait him into something dangerous. He values his life as well as others any threat to himself or those he loves is met with tooth and claw and a determination akin to that of a starving bear. He will not give up, nor will he willing allow others to be harmed by such threat. He does not enjoy verbal threats but as long as they don’t turn into anything more he is perfectly capable of ignoring it and letting it roll off his shoulder.
As said before, he is a very determined and stubborn dog. Once he sets himself on a path he does not stray from it nor is he one to back off just because it is difficult. That being said, to get him to commit to a crucial path is well…it would be easier convincing a deer to let you ride it. He will think and think and think some more, looking at as many angles as his brain can find. Emris has no qualms about voicing his opinions and questions, no matter how rude or tender they are.
Emris has a tempered side, where his rage and hate settle and lurk. When angry he becomes quite an interesting character, he is both analytical and argumentative, lashing out with words or tooth and claw or both. In this state he is not one to reason with or argue with, a spin on words can quickly turn into a nasty bite. This side of him does not appear frequently, or for long, but when it does, it is best to do what he says or get out of his way.
Going with his size, he has a very intimidating nature due to his seriousness and his general lack of humor. Emris uses this to his advantage, letting his size speak more than he does, but when he does speak he is blunt and to the point –unless nervous then he blumbers like an idiot- he does not dilly dally with small talk when something important needs to be said. Generally he wants to get the important news out of the way and then carry on to small talk. He has little patience when it comes to those that try to toy with him and beat around the bush- dodging his questions. It only feeds his paranoia.
» likes. loyalty, the sun, thrill of the hunt, peace and calmness.
» dislikes. being lied to, arrogance, threats, large bodies of water, aggression, being bossed around.
» strengths. intelligent, crafty, analytical, sympathetic, suspicious, determined, stubborn.
» weaknesses. Suspicious, prone to rage, analytical, paranoid, stubborn.

» history. Emris did not have a hard life. He came from a breeder, he knew his mother and siblings only until he was seven weeks old, and at that very tender age he was sold to a family expecting a child. By the time the baby came along Emris had been through obedient school, socialized and knew that he was big and could hurt people. Having learned early on that being rowdy and obnoxious was a bad thing, he became a calm and gentle being, skipping the obnoxious puppy personality that most have.
When the child finally came, Emris took on a much more protective role, guarding the child when she slept and being watchful every other moment of the day. It was not often the infant was out of Emris’ sight and if she was, he was not particularly pleased about it and when reunited he would ensure that she had not been harmed in any way. Which led to the troublesome issue of her crying. Any time she so much as made a peep Emris was there, making sure she was not hurt. Of course he knew his owners would not harm her, their only whelp but when others held her and she cried, he was every bit the protective dog he was bred to be. Trying to get her away from the human without harming her.
The child grew, climbing over him laying on him, pulling his fur, he tolerated it all, even the pain it caused when she tried to stick her fingers into his nostrils. As the child came upon her second year, the family had became edgy, receiving letters in the mail threatening them, phone calls were even more frightening for them. A guard was hired, but Emris quickly chased the man off- not liking him or the vibes he gave off. It was clear to the adults that Emris would not be happy with strangers lurking about, or anyone trying to protect the child. Who could do a better job than him?
A normal guard might have been the answer. When the night finally came, the adults were out and there was a baby sitter, a friend of the family Emris had grown up with and hadn’t growled at when she held the baby. The toddler was asleep, as was the sitter, but Emris was still awake, waiting for his masters to arrive home. He slipped outside the large doggy door and prowled the yard making sure nothing had changed. Things had. There was the scent of a dog he did not recognize inside the yard. Immediately he slipped into hunting mode to track the intruder down and send him on his way, it had obviously been a mistake on their part. Who else would intrude upon another’s territory? In fact, it was to be an assassination, one that ended badly. Having been jumped from the side by a tangible shadow, Emris and this shadowy foe fought and when at last Emris made a defeating bite to the dog’s shoulder and forcing him to the ground, neither held enough energy to do much more than stare at each other.
Panting and outraged, Emris demanded to know whom the dog was and what was the meaning of attacking him. The two did not know each other; he had never even caught a whiff of the bear like dog. Turns out the dogs name was Rephaim and like Emris, he had humans- but of a darker nature. Taking pity on the dog, Emris convinced Rephaim to stay- of course he would never be allowed around the child. After much coaxing, Rephaim agreed and the two slowly worked towards a friendship- although it was a very strained one most of the time. Emris’ human masters were equally sympathetic and allowed Rephaim to stay, they nursed him to health and although Emris remained protective of the child, he was otherwise welcomed into the home.
When the war came, they had grown somewhat closer, although it was still tense. It was not until Emris and Rephaim had been told to stay when the humans rushed to gather everything they could and leave that the two became much closer. Eventually, they left the house and traveled together, protecting one another, increasing the bond into something more than friendship. Emris looked fondly upon Rephaim, as an older brother would a sibling (despite them being the same age).
