The tan colored canine trotted through the many halls of the mall, his toe-nails leaving a 'clicking' sound in their wake. It was mid-day, but thankfully cool spring temperatures kept things bearable. The large tan brute was currently on the highest floor of the mall, having spent a good chunk of time climbing stairs to get there. He enjoyed coming to the mall. It was a nice, solid structure and sometimes there were nice canines to converse with. But today was different. As soon as he had entered, the sound of snarls and yelps filled his ears. He had avoided the commotion. As much as he would like to help out, he knew that if he got hurt he would be of no use to his pack. Not to mention he might lay out here and die before they found him, after all no one knew he was here. He turned a sharp corner, coming to an abrupt stop as he realized he had hit a dead end. The uppermost floor of the mall was much smaller than the rest, with only about four or five shops. This corner only harbored one door, that was cracked slightly. Brink grinned, the allure of adventure washing over him. He moved toward the door, forcing his nose into the crack and pushing. The door was very hard to open, and by the time he had it opened enough to fit in, he was a little out of breath. He stood still for a moment, catching his breath, before he squeezed through the crack that he had made. He stood just inside the door and looked at the room he had forced his way into. It was mostly empty, a counter stood in the corner, all of the shelves were still standing, little trinkets glittering in the sunlight. The walls of the room were made of glass, like windows. He trotted over to one, looking down at the city. He wasn't really old enough to remember a time when it hadn't been ravaged by war. He could remember that humans used to live here, but only for a short period in his life. Feeling slightly disappointed by the emptiness of the room, the shepherd turned to leave. However, the sound of scuffling behind the counter caught his attention. His disappointment melted away like dew in the sun, and he rushed forward, peeking fearlessly behind the counter. A loud yowl split the air, and claws flashed forward, causing him to jump back with a yelp. A small black cat pelted out of the room, hissing and yowling down the hallway. Brink stood panting for a moment, finally sitting back on his haunches and loosing a deep laugh. 450 words - askela - notes.

• • Graceful turns led the beautiful fae to her destination of the mall. Windows were smashed to ribbons and some of the doors were off their hinges. The lingering smell of dogs littered the area, other animals too like raccoons and cats. The saluki walked forward, making extra careful not to slice her paw open on something she would regret later. Making her way inside she saw in front of her, a dog. A shepherd it looked like. They seemed to pay no attention to what was going on behind them and she decided to take that advantage and slip away into a side store. She now had the perfect target for her next act, and she planned to make this one the victim would never forget.
• • As the shepherd disappeared she moved again, moving from store to store to find something to use as an advantage. She found an old pottery store. Clay pieces were littered across the ground, although a few bowls and pots looked rather intact. Their designs would have been intriguing to her, had her mind not already been on her new master scheme. 'Perfect~' she thought to herself, a small giggle escaping her long jaws. Behind her, she heard the sound of laughter and when she turned she noticed a cat streaking away and out of the mall. She gave a small huff, glad that she had not been found out already, but did not the fact that its finder was that of 'good' humor. A smirk flashed across her face, 'Its always the good ones that find themselves in bad situations it seems.'
• • Askela waited a few moments for the laughter to die down, as she wanted herself to be heard. She picked up a bowl in her jaws and smashed it against a counter. Its pieces falling to the ground in a loud shatter as she let out a loud yelp and collapsed herself to the ground. Her long silky fur settling around her, and the most innocent looking face you could find on someone. She began licking her left paw as if it was causing her a large amount of pain. And here she waited. Waited for her trap to be sprung..

No sooner than the sound of his laughter died away, did another another sound split the air. The crash was horrifically loud in the now silent upper-story of the mall. But what made it even worse was that it was followed by a loud yelp. The shepherd dog sprang to his paws, squeezing through the door he had forced open not too long ago, and pelted down the hallway. He never stopped to consider that maybe he shouldn't help the dog who was hurt, or that maybe it was a trap. His gut instinct had been to check out the situation, and see if the other canine was alright. It was only a matter of seconds before he came upon the source of the disturbance in an old pottery store. The air was dim and dusty, this store having only one window, unlike the the one he had just came from. He stood still for a moment, his eyes adjusting to the gloom. He scanned the room, his gaze soon landing on a very delicate looking female. Warmth bubbled up in his stomach. This is was perfect! Well, not her being hurt, but him being the one to find her. It must be a sign. He padded over to her, his heart pounding, he really didn't want to mess this up. "Hey there," he greeted, stopping a comfortable distance from the dog. He instantly picked up on the fact that she was licking her paw, and a frown pulled at the corners of his mouth. "Are you hurt?" He questioned, his concern leaking clearly into his tones. "What happened?" He looked around the room, his ears perked for signs of danger. He sniffed a couple of times, but the only things he could smell were himself, the she-dog, and dust. He concluded, then, that they must be alone. Perhaps the Saluki before him was just clumsy? 315 words - askela - notes.

• • Right on time did she hear the clicking of nails against the tile of the mall floor. And as the male got closer, Askela's ears flicked to the back of her head for a moment. The shepherd appeared and he did not seem hurtful, so her act continued. The saluki whined low as he first walked over, as if she was afraid of him for a few moments. He spoke to her, his tone sweet and curious on her situation. The fae nodded her head slowly at him in greeting, a shy smile crossing over her face.
"Hello.."
• • Her words played off her mouth in a sound that mimicked one that seemed weak and sweet. Looking at the shepherd she could tell he was one of the 'nice guys'. One of the ones that would run to the rescue and think later on if their idea was the best. The super hero's of the world. Going back to it, she figured he was kind of cute.. which would make this whole thing easier on herself.
• • The pale colored fae went to move and she placed her paw into the ground and gave a quick whine. Her eyes filled with a false worry about her own paw and she let out a soft sigh. She looked over at the shepherd and gave an encouraging smile.
"Oh don't worry your handsome little head about me. I'm fine.. I think."
• • The fae tried to raise herself up again and managed to make it to a sitting position that was accompanied by whines until she had made it. She kept the paw lifted in the air, looking over at the shepherd before looking around the store with a slight huff to her voice.
"Ohh. I came in here to look at some of the designs on the human made things, I bumped my paw into that pillar there and slipped on some pieces. The bowl fell on top of it all making the loud crash.."
• • The lie was spoken from her mouth as easy any any other words, for she had no tell signs. The rhazorn female could lie through her teeth and back before anyone could ever squeeze the real truth out of her. Askela moved her soft brown eyes to meet the shepherds, a soft smile crossing her face as if she was embarrassed. Large puffs of dust still had not settled and brushed past her face like a cloud. She batted her eyelashes a few times, just to seal the deal.
"My apologies for disturbing you.. I am Askela."

The female was very clearly hurt, but even so at first she greeted him with suspicion. For a moment he was confused by this, but then it occurred to him that most dogs didn't just trust anyone they met. A silly notion, really. It was unfair to pass judgement before you got to know someone. In any case, he could understand why one such as this female would have to employ such measures. She was very delicate and small, a larger dog could easily leave her very injured if they chose to. But he wasn't that kind of dog, and his warm smile seemed to ease her a little bit, because her face soon changed from guarded suspicion to of of concern about her paw. She tried to place it on the ground, but a high pitched whine from her told him that she wasn't going to be walking on it any time soon. The fawn colored male would have loved to be able to help her, but he knew nothing about injuries or healing. Her compliment seemed to hit him full force in the gut, and he stared down at his paws, unsure of how to respond. It wasn't the first time he'd been called handsome, but he never really got used to it. As much as he wanted a mate and romance, he was actually quite bad at it. He was spared the agony of trying to think of something to say in response when she started to try and sit up. Before he could react and try to help her, she had already forced herself painfully into a sitting position. He frowned at her, his eyes glittering with concern as she regaled her tale of how she had ended up in this situation. He shook his head slowly, "You should have brought someone with you, a pretty girl like you shouldn't be alone." His ears burned as he gave the compliment, but he was thankfully able to keep his uncertainty out of is tone and off of his face. "Do you not belong to a pack?" The thought that someone like her could be living alone ripped him apart. She was far too delicate to have to fend for herself. He sniffed a bit, trying to see if he could catch the scents of other dogs on her, but the dust in the air just tickled his nose and caused him to sneeze a bit. "Sorry about that," he murmured, almost missing her introduction. "Its very nice to meet you Askela, I am Brink, a soldier of Cesavias." His chest puffed out proudly as he introduced himself. 439 words - askela - silly boy.

• • The situation was playing out perfectly in her own favor. She was playing the role as the innocent, wounded, damsel in distress. And this boy way playing the perfect part of the humble hero. It would have sent shivers down her spine, had she not be focused on her job. It was like a little story was playing out in front of her, and it had only just begun. Only in this case, the damsel would turn to become the hero's worst nightmare... But that was for much later in the story.
• • The saluki gave the shepherd a soft smile as he complimented her, mentioning if she had belonged to a pack. Askela had to start being careful here, every detail mattered in this story and if she tripped over herself even once.. well the game would be all over wouldn't it? The pale fae held back a smirk across her truly evil face, raising her soft brown eyes to meet with the shepherd's.
"No. I currently live alone.. Large crowds tend to scare me."
• • She lied, her voice holding a sad whine noise to it. As if the pale ess was scared just thinking of the idea. In reality, she loved being with the Rhazorn's. They were like a family she never really had for the longest time. It was nice having some depend on you, in the same way that one would have to depend on them. Her deception work now was all for the good of the pack, an agent had to keep their selves in tip top shape after all. But in her time of living alone, her skills were honed to almost perfection. There were dogs that it really didn't work on.. but she didn't come across them often.
• • Askela eyed the long furred male as she noticed him sniffing around the air.. as if he did not believe her lie. Her eyes narrowed slightly but softened again when he sneezed. The queen of deception offered the shepherd a soft smile when he apologized. But she was feeling slightly on guard because of it still, although her face showed nothing but a slight 'pain' filled expression as she listened to him introduce himself to her.
• • Ah.. a Cesavias. A nice group of dogs they were, mostly. Their leader was definitely a trip in his own way. It would have been her choice of pack, had she not already been a member of the Rhazorn for awhile. And the fact that she was not sure if they were accommodate her.. talent. This made the game much more interesting now. A pack dog that seemed very easy to twist with emotions. Her job was now in place. Not that Askela had any suspicions of the Cesavias, but you never know. Some of them seemed too nice. The pale fae lifted her ears a bit as he finished his introductions and seemed rather proud of his position in the pack. Soldier to her meant nothing but that he was more of a commoner. No matter.. she acted interested anyway.
"Oo. A soldier? You must be a very loyal and brave dog, Brink. It is such a pleasure to meet someone of such great ranks."
• • Her voice spoke certain words in a slightly slower pace than the rest of her sentence. Her mouth played a smile and she gave a rather impressed look all around. She pulled her long tail around her body, kicking up some more dust in which she pretended to cough through. One of the coughs knocking off her balance and she put weight on her hurt paw. She gave a small whine and lifted it up off the ground again. After a few moments she sighed, looking back to Brink.
"I suppose this was quite the place to hurt myself.. I'm so clumsy sometimes."

BRINK: To say that her answer disappointed him would be an understatement. He couldn't believe that a dog as small and delicate as she was would be living on their own, or would have a fear of large crowds. His mind instantly traveled to the warehouse where his pack made their home. It was never overly crowded, but would the amount of dogs in it upset her? A small whining noise left her throat at the mere thought of a crowd, and he lowered his ears a bit. If just thinking about it upset her that much, then surely she would never have a place in a pack. But... how could things work between them? He shook his head a bit, ridding himself of such thoughts. Askela was under no obligation to be with him just because he checked on her after she made a clumsy mistake. Still, though. One look at her delicate features, and his heart seemed to race. Her fur was long and well taken care of, but even the length of her fur couldn't hide the fact that she was very slight underneath it. He thought it was probably a breed characteristic, since she didn't have the hollow expression that someone deprived of food normally wore. No, she seemed to do well for herself, for a loner. "I'm sorry to hear that, Askela. I think you would enjoy pack life.. Maybe, I mean, at least I do. Its nice to have friends, and someone to rely on.." He made no effort to mask the disappointment in his tone. The thought of someone as nice as her living alone upset him more than it probably should. However, despite her unwillingness to join a pack or consider packlife, she seemed very interested in his rank in the pack. His pelt burned hot with her praise, and he looked down at his massive paws, pushing them around in the fine layer of dust that blanketed the floor. "Oh no, its nothing like that," he mumbled. He was proud of his rank within the pack, of course. He had never been interested in gaining power, being the beta or the alpha. No, Raiden was the one true alpha of Cesavias, and while a beta had not yet been chosen, Brink trusted him to make the correct choice. He knew he had no interest in such a position. He was fine protecting his packmates and marking the borders. "Soldier is a pretty comm rank," he explained, assuming that she knew nothing of the ranking system within a pack. How could she, after all? "I take orders just like every other dog, but in a time of crisis I would be the one to protect the pack. I also am in charge of helping keep the borders checked and marked." He smiled warmly at her, his stomach still fluttering from her praise. The female was soon coughing however, the dust in the air irritating her lungs. He had to admit that this was a fairly uncomfortable place to sit and chat. One of her coughs seemed to knock her off balance, causing her to use her injured paw with a soft whine. He moved forward out of instinct, but once he was closer to her, he wasn't really sure what to do. Her declaration of clumsiness caused him to shake his head a bit. "This really is no place for a girl like you," he conceded. "Do you think you can walk a bit? I mean, you're pretty small, so you could lean on me mostly. There is an old store with beds in it on the floor below us, that would probably be a good place to rest until your paw feels a bit better." He moved a bit closer to her, so it would be easier for her to lean on him if she needed to. He felt nervous about leaving this place, and wondered if the store he was speaking of would have occupants. He could only hope that it didn't. --- 668 words - askela - none.[/blockquote][/div]
