» ANNOUNCEMENTS ( numero uno ) I'm Spanish now. Win.Anyways, hello everyone! With the re-launch has come a bunch of new decisions, and it was decided that with the shifting ongoings of IAEF that a new skin was in order, as well! This skin is simpler as far as graphics are concerned, but I feel like it will be a lot more user-friendly, as far as colors are concerned. It will be installed within the next few days, possibly tonight if I can get everything finished up, so I would love all of your opinions. The test site can be found here. As well, with the new skin brings a shift to a new season--we're skipping winter entirely. Oops. I could wait another month to shift the skin, so I decided we might as well just bring on Spring anyways. Due to the fact this was somewhat uncalled-for, the ages of your characters do not need to change until the next Spring rolls around. Finally, I encourage everyone to Audition for an Alpha position, and bring on all of your friends over to IAEF. This re-launch has been wonderful and, seriously, we couldn't have done it without you wonderful people. Within those people include Indy and Andie, who have been the most remarkable and tolerant staff. Because, let me tell you, I'm a weird one to deal with. C:

Well, first off, I just want to say that I LOVE the current banner, its one of the main things that attracted me to the site. Sites with boring banners and simple (beginner) boards tend to just...make me run away. I sound very shallow and stuck up saying that right? -hides behind shame-
On to the new skin. I like the colors, I love the fact that the seasons, staff and otm are all right there at the top. It makes finding things quicker, and people dont really have to guess about who the staffers are, plus the season is right there and no one has to hunt it down. I have always been a fan of pictures with board descriptions, it gives a bit more accuracy to the landscape in my opinion. I honestly have no idea if there was ever a stats bar, but I like it, it saves the trouble of telling new members what is needed and what isn't. I like the banner, its simple, but lovely and the little picture of the two dogs sitting together make me go 'dawwweee!' I think it is very user friendly (not that the current one isnt) and I think it will still attract members who like me, don't like beginner looking sites.
On a side note, is there a way to fix the posting thing so I dont need 4 blockquotes to get it looking un-stretched, currently it reminds me of notepad where it runs on and on and then suddenly jumps to the next line. :/
Jeeze....I still sound horrible.

i too was drawn to the site by the banner and color scheme. that said, this new one looks fantastic. i do think the banner has less of a wow factor, but it fits the theme and, to be honest, this color scheme has gradually started to wear on my eyes (beautiful as it is). this new one is far more gentle and pleasant. overall an upgrade, i think.
as for user-friendliness, you hit that one on the head. i really like having the season right there up top instead on this sidebar doohickey, which is still neat, but i do forget it's there sometimes (part of the color scheme blending / wearing on my eyes thing). this new one makes the pop-out bar stand out more without being obnoxious, but having less pertinent information. again, an overall upgrade in my opinion.
my only concern: i love the idea of pictures for area descriptions, but i am the type that requires a text description to be comfortable writing about an area. that said, the only time i have ever seen a picture and text work well together is with a hover function.. and i don't skin, so i don't know how difficult that is to incorporate. i am only one person though, and probably in the minority. i will not leave over something as silly as board descriptions. :]
f i z z i'm the same way. amateur-looking sites are an immediate turn-off. i don't feel bad about it and i don't think you should either; it's just taste. c: as long as we don't go around telling people their sites look bad, there's nothing wrong with judging appearance. with the amount of resource sites in existence, i don't think an admin cares about their site very much if it doesn't look at least somewhat professional.
edit: statistics are glorious. truly. if anything, keep that please. .-.

Just to add to Nihilaria's post..you can add headers to the specific boards. So after you click on the image and are like sitting there where you can see all of the threads, then you can have a header where you can do the description of said board.
